Honoring MLK’s Legacy Across the South

MLK Day honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Whether through reflection, volunteerism, or advocacy, this day encourages us to serve our communities and uphold Dr. King’s commitment to inspiring change.

Team UP for Our Communities

Team UP is Comcast’s national employee volunteer program. Team UP is an always-on, 365-days-a-year effort that brings Comcast teams together and provides opportunities for everyone to get more involved in their local communities.

Each year, Comcast’s Team UP volunteers across the country go out into their communities to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through service. Across the South, Comcast sponsored and volunteered in three different events, two in Atlanta, GA and one in Memphis, TN.

Emerging 100 of Atlanta’s “One Roof”

Last Monday, Emerging 100 of Atlanta hosted an MLK Day event at Atlanta City Hall. Comcast’s Team UP volunteers helped with coordinating this event, including assisting with care package assembly stations throughout the event, directing guests, and supporting the event’s speakers and vendors.

“I’m so grateful to work for a company that values employee engagement within the community, especially for events that honor such profound figures in history like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

Atiyah Kennedy, Manager of Government & Regulatory Affairs for Comcast’s Big South Region

“As someone who carries Dr. King’s philosophies on justice and equity with me every day, I will always choose to take a day on to serve my community!” said Atiyah Kennedy, Manager of Government & Regulatory Affairs for Comcast’s Big South Region.

Raising Expectations MLK Day of Service

Team UP volunteers visited Hollis Innovation Academy with our event partner, Raising Expectations, to assist with landscaping, courtyard clean up, painting murals, and putting together STEM kit and snack packs.

“Packing snack bags and toiletries and helping beautify spaces through painting at Hollis Innovation Academy was an incredibly fulfilling experience.”

“Each action, whether assembling essentials for students or adding fresh color to their environment, felt like a meaningful contribution to their well-being and success.”

Shante Robinson, Project Manager for Comcast’s Big South Region

“The joy of creating something tangible to support and uplift the students was deeply rewarding, and the collaborative spirit of everyone involved added to the positive energy of the day. Knowing that these efforts would bring comfort and inspiration to the students and staff made the experience even more special, leaving a lasting sense of pride and purpose,” said Shante Robinson, Project Manager for Comcast’s Big South Region.

Memphis College Preparatory School

On Monday, January 20, Comcast volunteers arrived at Memphis College Preparatory School in Memphis, TN to serve through sorting and giving food, winterwear, and toiletries to local families in need.

As we volunteer and honor special days like MLK Day, Comcast is committed to continuing to service our communities throughout the South with reliable connectivity and programs to further close the digital divide.
