Georgia Institute of Technology Pell Grant Recipients Eligible for Free Internet Service

$30 Credit from Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), Combined with Internet Essentials from Comcast, Makes Broadband Access Free for Eligible Students

ACP sign-up event coming to John Lewis Student Center on August 12th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) students, including those who are Pell Grant recipients, may qualify for the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides a monthly $30 credit for internet service.

ACP is a federal benefit program that helps ensure households nationwide can afford the broadband necessary for school and work. Students who are Pell Grant recipients, or who benefit from other major federal subsidy programs, are automatically eligible for ACP to help cover part or all of their monthly internet service bill.  Once enrolled in ACP, students can apply their $30 credit toward their monthly Xfinity Internet and/or Xfinity Mobile bill.

Eligible students can also take advantage of Internet Essentials from Comcast, the nation’s largest broadband adoption program for low-income households.

According to a national study by Educationdata.org, 34% of undergraduate students nationwide received a Pell Grant award in the 2020-2021 school year. Pell Grant awards depend on annual household income, household size, and the number of dependents.

Connecting college students in Georgia to affordable and reliable internet will help close the adoption and opportunity gaps, advance economic mobility, and foster the next generation of leaders. On Friday, August 12th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the John Lewis Student Center, Comcast will sign up eligible students for the ACP program or Internet Essentials.

For over a decade, Comcast has been committed to advancing digital equity, connecting 10 million low-income Americans to Internet Essentials and the resources necessary to navigate and excel in an increasingly digital world. In 2021, Comcast announced Project UP, a 10-year, $1 billion commitment to reach 50 million people from low-income households and provide tools, resources, skills, and training to bridge the digital divide.
