Dozens of Knoxville Families Receive New Laptops Through Comcast, Urban League Partnership
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (May 16, 2021) — Today, Comcast donated nearly 50 laptops to Knoxville area families in partnership with the Knoxville Area Urban League. The laptop donations are part of Comcast’s long-standing commitments to help accelerate digital equity in the Knoxville community.
“Comcast is proud to support the Knoxville community and to connect more families with technology,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast’s Regional SVP. “The Knoxville Area Urban League has been an outstanding partner as we continue to address digital inequities and connect as many East Tennesseans to the Internet as possible.”
In 2021, Comcast also donated 50 Dell laptops to the Knoxville Area Urban League as part of their digital equity efforts in the Knoxville community.
Comcast is committed to digital equity, and a proud participant in the new Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which offers up to a $30/month subsidy to qualifying low-income households to apply towards their Internet service. Families with access to Comcast’s network can sign-up for Internet Essentials, the nation’s largest and most successful broadband adoption initiative for low-income families, offering low-cost broadband packages for $9.95 or $29.95 a month, along with digital literacy training and discounted computers. Eligible customers can receive their Internet Essentials service for free after the government’s ACP credit is applied.
