Comcast Donates $18,000 in Technology Grant and Scholarships to Mobile Area Youth

The Comcast Foundation Awards the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama with a $10,000 Technology Grant and $8,000 in Scholarships to Eight Mobile Area High School Seniors

MOBILE, AL, June 23, 2017 – This week, the Comcast Foundation awarded the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama (BGCSA) and eight local students $18,000 in scholarships and a technology grant to support digital literacy and continued education for local youth in Mobile, Ala.

The BGCSA received a $10,000 MY.FUTURE grant from the Comcast Foundation during the dedication of the new “Comcast Tech Lab” at its Optimist Unit. MY.FUTURE is a technology initiative designed to teach digital literacy skills. Using state-of-the art technology and equipment provided to the Club through this grant, Boys and Girls Club kids at the Optimist Unit will receive personalized, hands-on tutorials; learn how to safely engage online; and discover technology skills needed to navigate today’s digital world.

“The Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama is grateful to Comcast for investing in our Club members’ futures and giving them the opportunity to broaden their horizons,” said Tim Willis, President and CEO of BGCSA.

Comcast, joined by local community partners and elected officials, also recognized eight Mobile area students selected as scholarship recipients in its 2017-2018 Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. The annual program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, recognizes the best and brightest high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on  it by the business community. The recipients each received $1,000 scholarships.
