Celebrating National Volunteer Month

Meet SUPER Team UP volunteers Nichella Dixon and Shante Robinson

April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of volunteers across the country. At Comcast, we believe in the power of giving back and the profound impact it has on our communities and ourselves. Volunteering is more than just a noble act; it’s a cornerstone of our company culture and a testament to our commitment to making a difference. Team UP is an always-on, 365-days a year initiative that brings our teams together and provides opportunities for everyone to get more involved with our communities.

In celebration of National Volunteer Month, we sat down with two amazing Comcast Team UP SUPER volunteers who make it their business to get involved with their communities as often as they can. Read on to learn more about Nichella Dixon and Shante Robinson and why volunteering is part of their DNA.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Shante: I’m a proud wife and mom of two wonderful children and a very proud nana of eleven amazing grandkids. Family is everything to me, and they keep life busy, joyful, and full of love. I’ve always had a passion for sports whether watching, playing, or cheering from the sidelines; it’s something that brings me joy and connects me with others. I am a Manager, Project Management with the Central Division Technical Product Sales Support team and I have been with Comcast for 25 years. My hobbies include traveling, shopping, going out with friends, and spoiling my grandkids.

Nichella:  I currently live in Georgia with my two daughters, but I’m originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. It’ll be 9 years on October 3rd that I’ve been with Comcast. I started as a part-time Telesales agent and within 1 ½ years, I was promoted twice, eventually becoming a supervisor for the department. I received the Elite award for highest performing agent in 2018 and have been striving to achieve Elite status again ever since! Recently, I transitioned to headquarters under the umbrella of Michelle Veal as a Supervisor for Sales Operations.

What was your first Team UP event?

Shante: My first Team UP event was at a shelter for battered women where we put together a playground, cleaned the grounds, and organized the kitchen pantry.

Nichella: My first Team UP event was with My Abilities ERG, walking for the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk.

Why is volunteering so important to you?

Shante: Volunteering is important to me because it’s a way to connect with others, give back, and be part of something bigger than myself. It’s an opportunity to make a positive difference and show kindness, compassion, and support to those who need it most.

Nichella: Growing up, volunteering was part of my environment. I always saw my grandmother volunteering, whether it was for charity or church. This is second nature for me. I enjoy seeing the expressions of those we help—it makes my heart smile.

What’s the best part about volunteering, especially with your fellow Team UP teammates?

Shante: The best part of volunteering with my Team UP teammates is the sense of connection and shared purpose. There’s something special about coming together, working side by side, and knowing we’re all there to make a difference. Plus, we have fun laughing, supporting each other, and creating memories while doing something meaningful.

Nichella: The best part about volunteering is the cultural and mutual respect we have for each other. It doesn’t feel like volunteering when I’m with my Team UP teammates; it feels like getting together with family, catching up on current events—whether personal, work-related, or world events—all while connecting with the participants of the event.

What non-profit organizations do you support? Why are they important to you?

Shante: Supporting The Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence is incredibly important to me because I grew up in a home where abuse was present. I witnessed firsthand the impact it had on my family, but I also saw the strength and transformation that came when a loved one found the courage to leave and thrive on the other side. That experience shaped my values, and I knew early on that I wanted something different for my future, especially for my children. Now that I’m able to help others, I feel a deep responsibility to support those trying to escape similar situations.

Nichella: My most favorite would be Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta. Growing up I was not exposed to anything of this caliber. To see young ladies of all ages come together and exhibit growth, determination, overcome roadblocks, is something that I admire and want to be a part of every chance I can.

Tell us how you encourage other colleagues and friends/family to get involved in volunteering.

Shante: I encourage others to get involved by sharing how rewarding and fun the experience can be. I talk about the connections I’ve made, the joy it brings to give back, and how even one small act of kindness or service can make a big difference. And if that doesn’t work, I “voluntell” them what they’re going to be doing on the given day 😊.

Nichella: Every chance I get I share with my direct reports and peers to get involved! I share that it will give them the opportunity to meet others from the company while helping your community. I do the same with family. My family has many skills that they can share. It just seems right to have them participate by volunteering. I tell everyone to participate. The more the better.
