Comcast Response to Hurricane Helene’s Impact on the Southeast

Saturday, September 28 @ 1:00 p.m.

Helene’s continued path of devastation includes Northeast Tennessee and the Southwest corner of Virginia, with evacuations, flash flooding and more. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by Helene. We hope you and your loved ones are safe.

Flooding from Helene.

Our Emergency Response Teams

Our emergency response teams are being fortified by volunteer technicians from neighboring states, including Comcast’s Storm Team 1, some of our most experienced technicians in storm recovery and restoration. With more than 300 crew members in rotating shifts 24/7, they are working through the weekend to quickly and safely as possible return services to our customers.

As power is still being restored to homes or businesses, our teams are strategically positioning fuel-based generators to power our network until commercial power has returned to our facilities. In some cases, your home or business may have electricity before power returns to our facilities, powering the network. Additionally, our teams are responding to 240+ reports of downed lines and broken poles throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Network Update

With widespread power outages, including trees and debris, still affecting large portions of our customers – we are working closely with local utilities and officials to ensure our teams have access to areas once cleared and declared safe to enter. Once allowed, our tech experts will assess the damage and work to repair or replace the network and/or equipment to get connectivity to our customers as quickly as possible. From our overnight crews, teams have made strong progress in metro Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, as well as Charleston, South Carolina – but there is still much work to do.

To support our communities, we have opened over 250,000 hotspots in Georgia, South Carolina, and impacted areas of Tennessee. Everyone, whether a customer or not, can access these hotspots. To learn how to get connected, please visit this page.
