Goodwill Southeast Georgia Launches Mobile Digital Literacy Program with Support from Comcast
Goodwill Southeast Georgia and Comcast today announced the launch of “Goodwill Mission on the Go,” a new mobile digital literacy program. This initiative, made possible through funding from the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, aims to break down barriers to digital access and education in underserved communities across our service areas.
“At Goodwill, we know education and skills training can transform lives by helping individuals reach their goals and achieve financial independence,” said Veronica Styron, Vice President of Mission Services at Goodwill Southeast Georgia. “With the support of Comcast, we can now bring essential digital skills training directly to our community partners, ensuring that no one is left behind in today’s increasingly digital world.”
The “Goodwill Mission on the Go” program will operate a mobile computer lab, facilitating digital literacy classes at partner sites including Union Mission and Family Promise in Savannah, as well as the Brunswick Housing Authority in Brunswick, Ga. These classes will cover computer fundamentals, Windows navigation, internet basics, email proficiency and word processing. Comcast generously donated laptops to support the program’s classroom activities.
“Comcast is proud to support initiatives that promote digital inclusion and empower individuals to thrive in the digital age,” said Amy Wright, Director of Community Impact at Comcast. “By collaborating with Goodwill Southeast Georgia on the ‘Goodwill Mission on the Go’ program, we can help bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for individuals to enhance their digital skills and improve their lives.”
The program’s success will be measured through participant assessment data tracked by Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s case management system. The goal is to achieve a 60% pass rate among participants in at least one of three digital skill modules, with a required passing score of 85% or higher.
