MOBILE, AL (June 21, 2023) – In partnership with the State of Alabama and Mobile County, Comcast today announced it has completed the first phase of its broadband network expansion in southern Mobile County. Now, over 400 residents and businesses in Southern Mobile County near Heron Bay and Bellingrath Road and Alabama Port have access to Comcast’s Xfinity 10G Network and the full suite of Xfinity services, as well as Comcast Business services.

The expansion was made possible by a $133,000 contribution by the State of Alabama and from private funding from Comcast.

“This is an exciting moment for Mobile County, and I want to thank Comcast and the State of Alabama for their partnership throughout this process,” said Randall Dueitt, Mobile County Commissioner.

“Today we celebrate the underserved homes and businesses in Mobile County that now have access to high-speed Internet and the many services and opportunities that come with being connected,” said State Representative Chip Brown. “Public/private partnerships like this one can create meaningful and long-lasting impacts to our community.”

Phase 2 Expansion

Comcast was recently awarded a $686,000 grant through the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund to further expand its network in Mobile County as part of the second phase of the buildout. Through this investment and with additional funding from Comcast, Comcast will deliver high-speed Internet and its full suite of Xfinity services to nearly 1,000 additional residents and businesses in Mobile County over the next year. The county-wide buildout will include two clusters of unserved and unincorporated areas in South Mobile County near the communities of Fernland, Alabama Port, and Mon Louis. Construction processes for this phase have already begun.

“We are excited to connect the underserved residents and businesses of Mobile County to the Xfinity 10G Network and Comcast’s next-generation services,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast Region SVP. “We look forward to expanding to even more areas of Mobile County.”
