Renewables will power 20 percent of Comcast Cable’s operations in Georgia, equivalent to one year’s worth of electricity use for 3,600 homes

ATLANTA, GA – March 22, 2022 – Comcast today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Georgia Power to purchase renewable solar electricity for Comcast Cable’s regional operations in the state. Through the Customer Renewable Supply Procurement (CRSP) program, Georgia Power will supply Comcast with 13 megawatts of renewable electricity for 10 years, covering 20 percent of Comcast Cable’s operations in Georgia, representing an annual volume of nearly 28,000 megawatt-hours. This is equivalent to one year’s worth of electricity use for 3,600 homes.

“As part of Comcast’s goal to be carbon neutral, we are actively looking for ways to bring more renewable electricity solutions online,” said Jason Gumbs, Regional Senior Vice President of Comcast Cable’s Big South Region. “This agreement will allow us to reduce our carbon footprint, benefitting our employees, our customers, our community, and the environment.”

The CRSP program helps Georgia Power procure new solar resources scheduled to come online by January 2024. Georgia Power will retire all the renewable energy credits associated with Comcast’s subscription on the company’s behalf for the duration of the 10-year agreement.

“We are excited to work with Comcast on this important initiative,” said Wilson Mallard, Director of Renewable Development, Georgia Power. “As part of CRSP, we will bring new renewable resources online that will provide clean energy to Georgia Power customers while helping participating customers like Comcast meet their sustainability goals. Leadership from companies like Comcast is critical to transforming our portfolio of energy resources to meet customer needs.”

Comcast is committed to being carbon neutral by 2035 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, or the direct and indirect emissions it owns and controls, across its global operations. In addition to several renewable energy agreements currently in place, Comcast will continue to invest in clean energy solutions through new on- and offsite renewable projects and decrease its carbon footprint.
