NORTON, VA. – Jan. 28, 2022 – Comcast announced today it has completed a network upgrade in Southwest, Virginia, enabling internet speeds for customers to jump from 300 Mbps up to faster than one gigabit-per-second. This announcement also completes the company’s goal of expanding its gigabit-plus and high-speed options for Comcast internet customers across its entire southeast region, which includes Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana and Kentucky.

“Today is a true milestone not only for our company but also for our customers,” said Comcast Region SVP Jason Gumbs. “Now, our residential and business internet customers have access to some of the fastest speeds in the nation, and most importantly, the opportunity to be better connected in this digital world.”

Beginning this month, Comcast will offer the new internet options to customers in Clintwood, Lee County, Norton (I think Galax is considered the largest towns in SWV) and surrounding areas. The new internet service options include Superfast (600 Mbps), Ultrafast (900 Mbps) and Gigabit Extra (1.2 Gbps). These services will be among the fastest in the area and include access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network. Comcast will deliver these speeds using the existing wiring that most people already have in their homes and businesses.

In addition to residential consumers, small business customers will also benefit from faster download speeds without costly and disruptive construction of new network facilities with the new Gigabit offering.
