Comcast Foundation Announces $20,000 Grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis
Grant Funds provide opportunities for in-need children and youth to participate in My.Future digital inclusion program
Comcast today announced it has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis (BGCM). Grant funds will be used to provide opportunities for Memphis children and youth living in poverty to participate in Comcast’s My.Future digital inclusion program.
“We are honored to support the important work of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Memphis,” said Jason Gumbs, Regional Senior Vice President at Comcast. “Those living in poverty are far less likely to have access to a computer and the resources that come with it. Like the Boys and Girls Club, Comcast wants to change that, and to connect all students to the power of the internet.”
“Comcast has been a committed partner to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis,” said Keith Blanchard, BGCGM President & CEO. “As the need for connectivity increases, Comcast’s contributions to our digital literacy programs has become even more critical. We are grateful for their support.”
Comcast’s My.Future program provides fundamental tech skills and encourages youth to get excited about STEM fields. This includes learning about computing essentials such as e-mail, internet safety, and typing skills. Participants also receive instruction in tech fields including graphic design, music production, coding languages, website design, video creation, and digital photography.
My.Future consists of “Essentials,” which are staff-facilitated activities that provide children and youth with foundational technology skills; and “Extensions,” which provide deeper interest activities. Each club members’ experience in the program will be tailored to their specific needs and interests by selecting from over 40 “Essentials” and “Extensions” activities.
In addition to the grants from the Comcast Foundation, Comcast also responds to community needs through local sponsorships and in-kind support, such as airing public service announcements, employee volunteerism, and providing technology equipment and services to organizations across the country. The Comcast Foundation continues to build on its efforts through expanding access to technology to promote digital inclusion, helping individuals build skills for the digital economy, and encouraging innovation and entrepreneurialism.
