Comcast Bringing Fastest Internet Speeds Over Wi-Fi to Augusta

Homes and businesses benefit from 1.2 gigabit speed technology

Augusta, GA – July 8, 2021 – Comcast announced today a multi-million-dollar upgrade that is bringing the fastest internet speeds available over Wi-Fi to Augusta residents and businesses. Beginning immediately, customers can take advantage of advanced Wi-Fi technology capable of delivering 1.2 gigabit per second speeds to support the ever-increasing number of connected devices in their homes. The upgrade to the Xfinity Gigabit service is part of a national rollout that began in February 2021.

“I applaud Comcast’s efforts to bring ultra-fast broadband services to Augusta residents and businesses,” said Georgia Representative Mark Newton, who represents the 123rd House District, which includes portions of Augusta and Columbia County. “The pandemic taught us just how important connectivity truly is, and Comcast continues to play a key role in bridging the digital divide.”

Three new tiers of high-speed Internet services are now available to residents and businesses across portions of Augusta, with availability to about half of the market by end of 2021.  Most residents and businesses will be upgraded by late 2022.

The new Internet service options are Xfinity Extreme (400 Mbps), Extreme Pro (800 Mbps) and Gig (1.2 Gbps). They are among the fastest and most widely available in the area and include on-the-go access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network.

“The global pandemic has shown all of us how important our broadband infrastructure is to our daily lives,” said Mayor Hardie Davis, Jr. “Comcasts investment in local homes and businesses is a welcome announcement and moves us in the direction of offering improved internet access for thousands of families and employers. I look forward to building on our strong partnership.”

“We are thrilled to unveil three new tiers of high-speed broadband service to Augusta residents and businesses,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast’s Regional Senior Vice President. “This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience with fast and reliable speeds.”

The new services come at a time when consumer demand for faster speeds across multiple devices is growing. According to The Xfinity Cyber Health Report, some users have dozens of devices in their home. Increased internet speeds support faster connections and more capacity to support the growing number of smart home devices that are being added to home Wi-Fi networks today and in the future.

With Xfinity Internet, customers automatically receive access to 19 million Wi-Fi hotspots around the country, xFi Advanced Security, and Xfinity Flex – a 4K streaming box with free access to Peacock Premium, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.  In addition, Comcast now offers a full suite of technology and entertainment products for consumers, including:

  • Xfinity Mobile: Offering unlimited data on the nation’s most reliable 5G network with mix and match data options, and a portfolio of mobile devices.
  • X1 TV: Access live TV, On Demand, sports, and streaming apps all in one place that customers can watch anywhere, anytime.
  • Xfinity Home Security: With a choice of home monitoring solutions, customers can check in from anywhere with Self Protection, a self-monitored solution with live and recorded video, real-time motion notifications, and video recording; or 24/7 professional monitoring and fast response times.

Businesses will also have access to a full suite of Comcast Business internet, voice, and video services, including Ethernet, Internet, Wi-Fi, Voice, TV and Managed Enterprise Solutions to help organizations of all sizes.
