More than 2,000 homes and businesses to benefit from technology upgrade

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) – June 28, 2021 – Comcast today announced it has expanded the reach of its network to Cheatham and Dickson counties in Tennessee. More than 2,000 homes and businesses now have access super-fast 1.2 gigabit-speed broadband service, the nation’s fastest in-home speed over WiFi, advanced security features, and a full suite of Comcast Business commercial services.

The expansion marks another joint investment between Comcast and the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Grant Program, which was created to address broadband gaps.

Over the past three years, Comcast has made more than $700 million in technology and infrastructure investments in Tennessee, including network upgrades. Comcast has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to invest $7.7 million in broadband expansion projects.

“Access to high-speed Internet and broadband services are desperately needed in underserved areas of our community,” said Tennessee State Representative Mary Littleton. I was very proud to support this application because broadband is an essential service that greatly benefits businesses and families, but also increases economic investment and growth.”

Recent rural community buildouts have included network expansions into Tipton, Roane and Campbell counties – bringing high-speed broadband services to nearly 5,000 homes and businesses. Each of these expansions was partially funded through the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act.

“Comcast has been an active leader in closing the broadband gap in rural Tennessee, and we’re focused on making the significant investments that are required to quickly connect more families,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast Regional SVP. “By partnering with the State of Tennessee and local communities, we’ve shown it’s possible to expeditiously and cost-effectively deliver advanced broadband services where the need is vital.”

This expansion also provides families with access to Comcast’s Internet Essentials program, the nation’s largest and most successful broadband adoption initiative for low-income families.

Since 2011, Internet Essentials has helped connect hundreds of thousands of low-income individuals to the internet in Tennessee.

With Xfinity Internet, customers automatically receive access to 19 million WiFi hotspots around the country, xFi Advanced Security, and more than 20,000 hours of video content.  In addition, Comcast now offers residents and businesses in Cheatham and Dickson counties a full suite of technology and entertainment products for consumers, including:

  • Xfinity Mobile: Offering unlimited 5G, several data options, and a portfolio of devices
  • X1 TV: Access live TV, On Demand, sports, and streaming apps all in one place that customers can watch anywhere, anytime.
  • Xfinity Home Security: With a choice of home monitoring solutions, customers can check in from anywhere with Self Protection, a self-monitored solution with live and recorded video, real-time motion notifications, and video recording; or 24/7 professional monitoring and fast response times.
