Atlanta City Council Declares July 25, 2019 Leaders and Achievers Day
In Honor of Comcast Awarding Over $100,000 in Leaders and Achievers
Scholarships to High School Seniors Across Georgia
Comcast NBCUniversal today announced that it has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships for the 2019-20 school year to 43 students from across Georgia as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program.
To celebrate, Atlanta City Council Member Antonio Brown declared July 25, 2019 “Leaders & Achievers Day” and presented a special proclamation honoring the scholars and Comcast’s dedication to higher education.
“This program will give our young people every opportunity to prepare for the future,” said Councilman Brown. “It demonstrates the importance and value of civic involvement, especially by the business community.”
This proclamation was made as Georgia’s Leaders and Achievers scholars had the opportunity to visit the Atlanta Braves stadium to celebrate their awards. The students each received keepsake certificates and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Atlanta Braves stadium at SunTrust Park.
State elected officials Senators Brandon Beach and Valencia Seay, as well as Representatives Debra Bazemore, Betsy Holland, Karen Mathiak and Donna McLeod attended the celebration. Riverdale City Council Member An’Cel Davis also attended the event.
Leaders and Achievers scholars were selected for their outstanding community service, academic performance and leadership skills. The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses. Since 2001, more than $33 million has been awarded to nearly 30,000 high school seniors across the country.
