University of Alabama in Huntsville Teams Up with Comcast to Offer Xfinity on Campus for Its Students
School becomes first in Alabama to offer on‑campus, TV streaming service that caters to the viewing habits of students
Huntsville, AL (August 21, 2018) – Today, Comcast announced that its Xfinity On Campus service is now available at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The service, which is included with room and board, allows students living in on-campus housing to watch live TV, Xfinity On Demand and recorded content on their IP-enabled devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
UAH is the first institute of higher learning in Alabama to launch Xfinity on Campus, joining several other schools across the southeast including Emory University, Tennessee State University, The University of Southern Mississippi, and Savannah College of Art and Design.
Xfinity On Campus offers more than 100 live television channels including every major broadcast network, as well as AMC, Bravo, BET, ESPN, FX and MTV through Comcast’s Xfinity Stream app and portal. The service also includes access to thousands of current season TV shows and hit movies via Xfinity On Demand. While off campus, students can use the Xfinity Stream app to log in and access TV Everywhere programming that’s part of their subscription.
“With today’s announcement, UAH becomes the first institute of higher learning in Alabama to offer Xfinity on Campus to its students,” said Doug Guthrie, Comcast’s Regional Senior Vice President. “Students can now turn any mobile device into a television, enabling them to easily view their favorite content on the go, anytime.”
UAH is a public Tier 1 national university which Southern Living recently named one of the best college towns in the South. Its students hail from almost all 50 U.S. states and more than 80 countries. It is part of the University of Alabama System, which is Alabama’s largest higher education enterprise, providing regionally and nationally prominent teaching, research, and service programs. The System is one of Alabama’s largest employers with more than 36,000 employees at its three campuses and health system.
Xfinity On Campus provides an opportunity to introduce a younger audience to Xfinity X1, Comcast’s next-generation video product currently enjoyed by residential customers throughout the nation. Xfinity X1 delivers an immersive and personalized entertainment experience across all devices in an interface that is intuitive and makes search and discovery of content simpler.
Xfinity On Campus is easy and cost-effective for a university’s IT department to maintain. To register for the service, students can visit Xfinity On Campus, type in their school name and authenticate with their student user name and password. Once registered, students can watch their programming anytime by downloading the Xfinity Stream app or by visiting here and logging in with their student credentials.
