Comcast Announces Fiber Network Buildout to Historic Downtown Savannah

Multi-million dollar investment designed to deliver 10-gigabit speeds
to local business community

Savannah, Ga. – August 10, 2017 – Comcast Business today announced it is building a multi-million dollar fiber optic network designed to deliver 10-gigabit speeds to Savannah’s downtown business community. The network will also be extended to serve businesses on nearby Skidaway Island.  When the network is completed in late summer 2017, it will provide businesses of all sizes with highly scalable and ultra-fast Internet connectivity and cloud-based voice solutions.

“Savannah’s economic future depends on fast, reliable network connections,” said Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach. “The long-term solution will come from investments like the one Comcast is bringing to downtown Savannah. We applaud them for taking this important step.”

Savannah’s economy depends on the manufacturing, tourism and maritime transportation sectors. Savannah supports these and other industries thanks to a robust infrastructure, a growing workforce, and strong government and community resources. The military is also important to the economic health of the city, with Fort Stewart just 40 miles away.

“Business in the Savannah area is progressing and our innovative city needs new technology to support growth,” said Bill Hubbard, president and CEO of the Savannah Area Chamber.  “Comcast has always been a huge supporter of business, and we are pleased they are continuing to make infrastructure investments in our future.”

“We are proud to further our long-standing investment in Savannah, which is designed to support this city’s growing residential and business communities,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional SVP for Comcast. “Today’s announcement puts Savannah on the map as an ideal destination for businesses looking to expand or relocate.”
