Comcast Adds 500 Outdoor Wi-Fi Hotspots in Memphis, Exceeds 55,000 Total Area Hotspots

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 28, 2017) –  Comcast announced today it has installed 500 Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots in popular areas throughout Memphis with plans to add more over the next few months. These outdoor units offer Comcast customers more widespread wireless access to the Internet and helps keep customers connected everywhere they go. Now, with over 55,000 total hotspots – indoor, outdoor and residential – in the Memphis area, Comcast customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas.

Comcast has installed the outdoor online access points throughout Midtown, Downtown, Uptown, North Memphis, South Memphis; near parks such as Douglas, Hyde and Overton Parks; and outside of restaurants and shops in greater Memphis.

This investment complements Comcast’s thousands of existing residential and business hotspots in the area, which most Xfinity Internet customers can access at no additional cost and non-customers are offered two free sessions per month. Customers also have access to millions of hotspots across the country.

“Providing widespread Wi-Fi access throughout Memphis gives residents and visitors easy access to the internet and keeps them connected wherever they go,” said Vic Pascarelli, Comcast Regional Vice President of Marketing. These hotspots offer our customers even more value from their Xfinity service by letting them connect to people, information and entertainment like never before.”

Comcast’s Memphis market has launched innovative services such as the X1 entertainment operating system, multi-gigabit speeds for business customers, and most recently, the “Tech ETA” feature under the My Account app providing a more localized and personalized customer experience. Comcast has also increased internet speeds in Tennessee virtually every year for more than a decade.

Comcast’s advanced Wi-Fi network also consists of:

  • Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Business Locations: Most Comcast Business Internet customers are eligible to receive an Xfinity WiFi hotspot for no additional charge when they order service. This is a value-added feature that directly improves their patrons’ experience. Examples of customers include restaurants, offices and retail establishments. The recently launched WiFi Pro is a next generation business Wi-Fi solution that lets businesses deliver a great customer experience and promotes business growth.
  • Xfinity Home Hotspots: The initiative provides residential customers with Xfinity Wireless Gateways the ability to have a second “xfinitywifi” signal (or SSID) in their home that is separate and distinct from their private and secure home Wi-Fi signal. This second signal provides visiting Xfinity Internet customers Wi-Fi access without the need to use the homeowner’s private network and password.

Finding the nearest Xfinity WiFi hotspot

When in range of an Xfinity WiFi hotspot, most Xfinity Internet customers can select “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
