New hotspots add to Comcast’s 1,000 existing outdoor access points in Mississippi’s
capital city, at no additional cost to customers

Jackson, MS (March 14, 2017) – Comcast announced today it has added nearly 100 new Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots throughout greater Jackson.  Specific hotspots are now located in heavily trafficked parts of town, including Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves; Belhaven University; River Oaks Hospital; the Outlets of Mississippi; and the Jackson Zoo.

This announcement also complements the company’s thousands of existing residential and business hotspots in the area, which most Xfinity Internet customers can access at no additional cost, making Comcast the largest Wi-Fi provider in Mississippi.

“Today’s announcement is another important step toward making Jackson a truly connected city, one that is able to offer its residents a virtually ubiquitous online experience,” said Vic Pascarelli, Comcast Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “We are proud to provide the most Wi-Fi coverage to residents and businesses in Mississippi, and look forward to building on this success.”

With more than 16 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots now deployed nationwide, Comcast offers the fastest network of Wi-Fi hotspots in the country. This network ensures customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas. According to Cisco, 88 percent of all U.S. data traffic on mobile and portable devices will travel over Wi-Fi by 2018.

Comcast’s advanced Wi-Fi network consists of:

  • Xfinity WiFi Outdoor Hotspots:Comcast has placed nearly 100 Xfinity WiFi hotspots in popular public locations across greater Jackson.
  • Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Business Locations:Most Comcast Business Internet customers are eligible to receive an Xfinity WiFi hotspot for no additional charge when they order service. This is a value-added feature that directly improves their patrons’ experience. Examples of customers include restaurants, offices and retail establishments.
  • Xfinity Home Hotspots:Launched across greater Jackson in April 2014, the initiative provides about 15,000 residential customers with Xfinity Wireless Gateways the ability to have a second “xfinitywifi” signal (or SSID) in their home that is separate and distinct from their private and secure home Wi-Fi signal. This second signal provides visiting Xfinity Internet customers Wi-Fi access without the need to use the homeowner’s private network and password.

Finding the nearest Xfinity WiFi hotspot

Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.

For users who don’t subscribe to an eligible Xfinity Internet package, hourly, weekly and monthly Xfinity WiFi access passes can be purchased.
