Grants help expand digital literacy, promote community service and build tomorrow’s leaders

Atlanta, GeorgiaJanuary 17, 2017 – The Comcast Foundation announced today that it awarded $230,000 in grants to nine nonprofit organizations across Georgia in 2016. The grants help grow programs aimed at the Comcast Foundation’s three areas of focus – expanding digital literacy, promoting service, and building tomorrow’s leaders.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, The Latin American Association (LAA) in Norcross, Ga., and the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club of Savannah are among of the many local organizations that are making a significant difference in the community and were supported by the Comcast Foundation this year.

“The Latin American Association is incredibly grateful for our long-standing partnership with Comcast,” said Elizabeth Sirk, Managing Director of Development for the LAA. “Comcast has been a great corporate supporter, and its employees continue to be very active corporate volunteers who provide critical, hands-on support for our programs.”

“We are proud to continue our collaboration with these vital organizations across Georgia,” said Andy Macke, Vice President of External Affairs. “Their mission of empowering local youth to reach their academic and professional goals aligns perfectly with our core values, and we couldn’t be more excited to provide this support.”

Additional organizations receiving Comcast Foundation grants in Georgia include:

  • 100 Black Men of Atlanta
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Savannah River Area
  • Ron Clark Academy
  • Cool Girls
  • Center for Pan Asian Services
  • Urban League of Greater Atlanta

Including the support in Georgia, the Comcast Foundation has donated $19 million in 2016 to nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves nationwide. In addition to the grants from the Comcast Foundation, Comcast also responds to community needs through local sponsorships and in-kind support, such as airing public service announcements, employee volunteerism, and providing technology equipment and services to organizations across the country.
