Comcast Adds 200 New Outdoor Wi-Fi Hotspots in Greater Chattanooga, Exceeds 10,000 Hotspots for Area Customers and Businesses

Company offers more hotspots than any other local provider, at no additional cost to customers

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 23, 2016) – Comcast announced today it has added 200 new Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots throughout Greater Chattanooga so far this year. With over 10,000 total hotspots in the area, Comcast offers more coverage than any other provider in greater Chattanooga, ensuring customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas.

Locations of the new outdoor hotspots include public spaces like parks, hospitals, shopping centers such as the Hamilton Place and Northgate Malls, commuter stations, hotels and other tourist attractions. This announcement complements Comcast’s thousands of existing residential and business hotspots in the area, which most Xfinity Internet customers can access at no additional cost.

“On the heels of our multi-gigabit speed investments and recent streaming TV launch, today’s news underscores our commitment to providing Chattanooga residents with an unparalleled online experience,” said Valerie Gillespie, Comcast Area Vice President and General Manager. “Customers across the region can connect to family, friends, information and entertainment like never before.”

Over the past four years, Comcast has launched innovative services such as the X1 platform, Xfinity Home, and most recently, Cloud DVR and steaming television, which enables customers to enjoy the full TV experience on the go. Comcast has increased internet speeds in Chattanooga virtually every year for more than a decade, and in 2015, the company launched Gigabit Pro, a professional-grade residential internet tier that delivers 2-Gbps upload and download speeds.

Last month, Comcast Business launched Wi-Fi Pro, a powerful, next generation business WiFi solution that delivers the fastest speeds and the most coverage for Tennessee businesses and their customers.

“Access to multi-gigabit speeds and the fastest in-home, business and outdoor Wi-Fi provides our customers with the speed they need to stay ahead of tomorrow’s technologies,” Guthrie added.

Comcast’s advanced Wi-Fi network also consists of:

  • Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Business Locations: Most Comcast Business Internet customers are eligible to receive an Xfinity WiFi hotspot for no additional charge when they order service. This is a value-added feature that directly improves their patrons’ experience. Examples of customers include restaurants, offices and retail establishments. The recently launched WiFi Pro is a next generation business Wi-Fi solution that lets businesses deliver a great customer experience and promotes business growth.
  • Xfinity Home Hotspots: Launched across greater Chattanooga in April 2014, the initiative provides residential customers with Xfinity Wireless Gateways the ability to have a second “xfinitywifi” signal (or SSID) in their home that is separate and distinct from their private and secure home Wi-Fi signal. This second signal provides visiting Xfinity Internet customers Wi-Fi access without the need to use the homeowner’s private network and password.

Finding the nearest Xfinity WiFi hotspot

Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
