The Xfinity WiFi network continues to grow and customers are using it more than ever. We just surpassed 10 million hotspots nationwide and so far this year, people have used those hotpots more than 3.6 billion times, a 500 percent increase.
Wi-Fi has become the primary way people get online and we’ve made an effort to put service in the public places where users connect most often like parks and transportation hubs, on boardwalks, in sports and entertainment venues, shopping centers and small businesses.
To celebrate our 10M milestone, we looked across our network and highlighted 10 of our favorite locations where people are using Wi-Fi to connect to the online experiences they love. Users can always find the hotpots closest to them here.
10 – The 606 in Chicago, IL.
The 606 is a new Chicago park created from unused elevated rail lines that spans several northwest side neighborhoods, including Bucktown, Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Wicker Park. Relax in one of the seating areas in this unique urban space, and connect to the Internet to learn about the art, architecture and nature along the trail, as well as park programming. Just opened on June 6 of this year, The 606 has become a popular Chicago destination.
9 – The Boardwalks in Ocean City, NJ. and Ocean City, MD.
Millions of people hit the beach each summer and these seaside communities that share a name are among the most popular. As sun-seekers walk the boards, they’re also texting with friends, checking Yelp for the best pizza and posting updates on Facebook or Twitter. Nationwide, our customers now transmit over 30 million gigabytes of data each month over Wi-Fi, that’s about 12 million HD movies. Some of that data likely also includes pictures of dads getting buried in the sand.
8 – The McKnight Road shopping/dining corridor in Pittsburgh, PA.
A vibrant, always-evolving consumer destination for those not only in the North Hills but throughout the Pittsburgh Metro area, McKnight Road is just minutes from downtown. Among popular destinations are Ross Park Mall, which includes the region’s only Nordstrom location, North Hills Village and the rapidly-growing McCandless Crossing.
7 – MBTA Green Line in Boston, MA.
Our hotspots are available for commuters and tourists who travel on America’s first subway line – Boston’s Green Line. The hotspots are located on station platforms including: North Station, Haymarket, Park Street, Boylston, Arlington, Copley, Prudential, Symphony, Hynes Convention Center and Kenmore, as well as dozens of other outdoor station platforms on the B, C, D and E branches of the Green Line. While we like the Green Line, stay tuned because we also have plans to extend Xfinity WiFi hotspots to the Red, Blue, Orange and even Silver Lines.
6 – Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, UT.
Consumers are getting online more often in parks and public spaces like this – since Xfinity WiFi launched in 2012, our outdoor hotspots see 5 to 10 times more traffic compared to our small business and home hotspot locations.
5 – The Commons on Champa in Denver, CO.
The Commons is a new public campus that was designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in downtown Denver. WiFi is super important for public / private initiatives like The Commons, especially in and around the facility where people meet with colleagues, network with other start-ups, or just go outside. Nationally, Xfinity WiFi customers connect on average nearly 5 times per day with an average session length of over 25 minutes.
4 – Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, GA.
This Park initially served as a gathering spot for visitors and residents to enjoy during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Now the Park sponsors community events, concerts, festivals and celebrations. You can find XFINITY WiFi in key park areas, and you can also find hotspots throughout the nearby neighborhood.
3 – Levi’s Stadium – Home of the San Francisco 49er’s
Not only do we provide free WiFi at the home of the San Francisco 49ers in the heart of Silicon Valley, but we also provide in-stadium video and Internet services as well as voice services for stadium operations. While watching the game, take advantage of the numerous sports apps available to fans. Speaking of apps, our Xfinity WiFi app has now been downloaded over 3 million times.
2 – Suburban Station in Philadelphia, PA.
It’s an underground “city”, art deco, commuter rail station in Center City Philadelphia and it is one of our busiest hotspots. Xfinity WiFi is available for free for SEPTA customers in Suburban Station and many other stations throughout the transit system, including 30th Street, Jefferson, Temple University, University City, the Regional Rails and the Broad Street subway stations. Other Xfinity WiFi “Hotspot” locations in Philadelphia include, Citizens Bank Park, Wells Fargo Center, XFINITY Live, and Dilworth Park.
1 – Universal Orlando Theme Parks
Xfinity WiFi is helping to make the theme park experience even better. Our hotspots are located throughout Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and atUniversal CityWalk. Guests can easily connect to Xfinity WiFi to send pictures to friends and family back home. And with Universal Orlando’s mobile app, it’s easy to navigate the park and do things like check wait-times, view interactive maps and find nearby dining, shopping and restroom options.
These are some of our favorite public hotspots in our network. Millions more can be accessed by Xfinity customers when visiting family, friends, and neighbors as a part of our neighborhood hotspot initiative. Now it’s time to find the next round of locations where we can install hotspots so even more people can have fast and convenient Internet access wherever they need to connect.
