Comcast Honors 28 Memphis Area Leaders And Achievers Scholarship Recipients
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (June 24, 2015) – Yesterday, Comcast recognized the 2015-16 Memphis area recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Comcast honored 28 Memphis area students at the Memphis Pink Palace, with a special reception and luncheon for the scholarship winners and their families. Mississippi State Representative Pat Nelson, Shelby County Schools Vice Chairman Kevin Woods and school officials kicked-off the event.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program provides $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
“Our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners embody academic excellence and community service,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional SVP for Comcast. “We are honored to recognize these students, and look forward to supporting them in their educational endeavors.”
In total, Comcast has given 72 scholarships statewide this year.
