CHATTANOOGA, TN (April 30, 2015) – Comcast today announced it will offer residential multi-gigabit broadband service for up to 200,000 customers in Chattanooga beginning in June, and expects to expand availability locally over the next several months. Gigabit Pro is a symmetrical, 2 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) service that will be delivered via a fiber-to-the-home solution and will be the fastest residential Internet speed in the country.

“Gigabit Pro will be the fastest internet available to residential customers in Chattanooga,” said Doug Guthrie, SVP of Comcast Cable’s South Region. “This important milestone follows years’ worth of investments we’ve made to consistently deliver the fastest in-home and Wi-Fi speeds to the most homes and businesses in our markets.  We’re excited that Chattanooga will become one of the first cities in the country to enjoy the nation’s fastest residential speeds.”

Earlier this month, Comcast announced Gigabit Pro rollouts in Atlanta, Florida and California, and said it plans to roll out the service to 18 million homes by year-end 2015.

Comcast has fiber at the core of its network and, for the past decade, it has been extending it deeper into neighborhoods and closer to homes. To date, Comcast has built out more than 145,000 route miles of fiber across its service area to serve residential communities with a fiber to the home solution. The company has been doubling the capacity of its network at least every 18 months and has increased speeds for its subscribers 15 times in the past 13 years. In addition to fast, wired broadband tiers, Xfinity Internet customers have access to the industry’s fastest in-home wireless gateway capable of offering up to 700 Mbps Wi-Fi connections.
