Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi Reflects on Comcast Cares Day

Penney Ainsworth, BGCCM President/CEO

Comcast Cares Day has been an important annual event held at one of our four Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi (BGCCM) sites since 2001. Our mission is to enable and inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive citizens. Comcast has been a great partner in helping us reach that goal.

Comcast Cares Day brings family, youth, Comcast employees, and volunteers together to make a difference within our communities.  This initiative has helped to bridge the gap in so many ways. It serves as a family model that brings the kids we serve and their families together, and has prompted several improvements within all our units, such as updating libraries and technology centers, and landscaping.

Through the years of service, there is one significant Comcast Cares Day moment that really stands out. Comcast and Home Depot worked together to plant grass in an area where it had never grown, a metaphor for the challenges we face at BGCCM.   We plant seeds of new opportunity every day for the youth we serve in preparing them for the future. That same area today, which is located at our Sykes Unit, is a replica of how sowing one seed can produce so much. This area is covered in grass and continues to grow. Great futures do start here!

The statement of Comcast that “giving is in our DNA” is a true phrase that reflects their dedication. Comcast Cares Day makes a lasting impact that our youth, parents, community partners, and volunteers can look back on for generations to see the outcomes of the greatest gift of all to give: time.

Thank you to the Comcast Cares Day volunteers for your support, and we look forward to more exciting community projects in the future!
