Comcast continues its focus on making Charleston a fully connected city

CHARLESTON, SC – (March 31, 2017) – Comcast announced today it plans to install nearly 300 new Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots in popular areas throughout the greater Charleston area over the next few months. Comcast has already installed thousands of home and business hotspots throughout the region.

Comcast will install the online access points at such locations as Charleston Southern University; North Charleston City Hall; outside nine public and private area schools; in several outdoor parks such as MeadWestvaco, Brentwood Field, and Whipper Barony; and outside dozens of restaurants and shops in greater Charleston. About half of the Xfinity WiFi hotspots will be situated in North Charleston.

The growing network of outdoor, business and home hotspots allows Xfinity Internet customers to connect their mobile devices to the Internet at no additional charge, and non-customers are offered two free sessions per month. Customers also have access to millions of hotspots across the country.

“This investment is the latest step in our efforts to keep Charleston connected and equipped with the most advanced technology available,” said Vic Pascarelli, Comcast Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “Providing widespread Wi-Fi access gives residents and visitors fast and easy access to the internet in even more locations around Charleston.”

Comcast’s advanced Wi-Fi network in Charleston also consists of:

  • Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in Business Locations: Most Comcast Business Internet customers are eligible to receive an Xfinity WiFi hotspot for no additional charge when they order service. This is a value-added feature that directly improves their patrons’ experience. Comcast has deployed hotspots to the area’s restaurants, offices and retail establishments. The recently launched WiFi Pro is a next generation business Wi-Fi solution that lets businesses deliver a great customer experience and promotes business growth.
  • Xfinity Home Hotspots: These provide residential customers with Xfinity Wireless Gateways the ability to have a second “xfinitywifi” signal (or SSID) in their home that is separate and distinct from their private and secure home Wi-Fi signal. This second signal provides visiting Xfinity Internet customers Wi-Fi access without the need to use the homeowner’s private network and password.

Finding the nearest Xfinity WiFi hotspot

Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
