Over 500 Volunteers to Support Community Projects Across Memphis in April for Annual ‘Comcast Cares Day’
Memphians Interested in Volunteering are Encouraged to Attend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – April 8, 2018 – This month, more than 500 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer at seven different projects across the Memphis area as part of the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day, the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer event.
During the month of April, a variety of “Comcast Cares Day” volunteer projects in Memphis such as park clean-ups, meal preparation opportunities, blood drives and more, will support local organizations including the Memphis Overton Park Conservancy, Memphis Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association and Memphis City Year.
Additional volunteers are needed and encouraged to attend a project. For more information on how to get involved and to register, visit http://comca.st/2uROlfe.
On Saturday, April 21, Comcast’s signature Comcast Cares Day event in Memphis, the “Little Learners Mural” project, will bring over 100 volunteers, elected officials including Mayor Jim Strickland, and community partners such as City Year, to Caldwell Guthrie Elementary School. Volunteers will paint murals throughout the school to motivate and inspire students and improve their school experiences. Volunteers will also work to increase the curb appeal by picking up trash and landscaping the area.
“City Year Memphis is a proud national partner with Comcast and we are honored to serve the Smokey City/Klondike community through our Comcast Cares Day project at Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary,” said Catherine Cushinberry, Ph.D. Executive Director and Vice President, City Year Memphis. “I am a product of Smokey City, so I am humbled by the opportunity to have City Year Memphis work alongside other caring citizens to beautify the school environment for students, families and the dedicated teachers and administrators.”
Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism that began when the company was founded more than 50 years ago. From using technology to create positive change, such as wiring community centers and libraries and teaching digital literacy skills, to mentoring youth, to beautifying parks, Comcast NBCUniversal employees volunteer on this day, and throughout the year, to make a lasting impact.
“Our Comcast Cares Day volunteers continue to spread positivity, build bonds, strengthen the community and make a lasting impact on others,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional Senior Vice President, Comcast. “At Comcast, giving back is in our DNA and we are proud to partner with such impactful organizations and incredible people to make a difference in our community.”
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $22 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
