Comcast Business

Comcast Investment will deliver Tuscaloosa’s fastest internet speeds to hundreds of area

businesses, schools, hospitals and government agencies

Tuscaloosa, ALJanuary 25, 2021 Comcast Business today announced it has completed a significant fiber optic network upgrade across Tuscaloosa, capable of delivering up to 10-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) dedicated internet speeds and ethernet private line services to organizations of all sizes. Comcast’s investment is designed to more effectively support emerging technologies and the mission critical data transfers that today’s businesses require.

“We are proud to offer Tuscaloosa businesses the fastest internet speeds and the many advanced solutions that come with this investment,” said Jason Gumbs, Comcast Regional SVP. “Today’s announcement is a true milestone for the City of Tuscaloosa’s business community, and one we’re excited to be part of.”

The new services can also be used by businesses that need a redundant – or second network – to support business continuity in the event of adverse weather. This could be especially helpful during hurricane season, when severe conditions typically cause power outages or makes office buildings inaccessible.

Comcast Business serves schools, businesses, hospitals, and other organizations that require large amounts of bandwidth, are looking to link multiple locations, or that plan to connect their offices to a third-party data center. Services offered include:

  • Ethernet Private Line: point-to-point connectivity between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications
  • Ethernet Virtual Private Line: point-to-multipoint connection to enable customers to tailor bandwidth, performance characteristics, and cost
  • Ethernet Network Service: multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity to connect organizations with high-bandwidth requirements and multiple locations across Comcast’s network
  • Ethernet Dedicated Internet: continuous, high-bandwidth connectivity between customers’ LANs and the public Internet

Nationally, Comcast Business’s Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 149,000 miles and features a 100 Gbps backbone and expanded local footprint through Ethernet over HFC. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by strict service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers.

To help businesses and their employees be more productive and to protect them from cybersecurity threats while working remotely, Comcast introduced Comcast Business At Home – a dedicated, enterprise-grade and business-paid, set of connectivity solutions for business owners with a premise-based location that also have employees working from home.
